Property damage estimation from photos
Turning claimant photos of a damaged home into a structural repair estimate: roof surface, siding, interior damage, line-level parts and labor pricing tied to regional rates.
The three rungs
An adjuster visits the property with a ladder and measuring tape, sketches damage on graph paper, looks up local labor rates from a book, and writes the estimate by hand. In heavy catastrophe seasons a CAT adjuster flies into the region and works through a stack of claims over several weeks.

Verisk Xactware (Xactimate) has been the property-estimating substrate since 1986; 22 of the top 25 US property insurers use it. AI-native entrants do not replace Xactimate; they feed it. Hover turns eight smartphone photos into a measured 3D model. Tractable reads photos directly. Both sit upstream of the pricing layer that Xactimate still owns.
